Level 1: Operation and maintenance of rotating machines
Objectives
Rotating machines are equipment consisting of several moving parts. We can mention as for example pumps (volumetric and centrifugal), reciprocating, centrifugal, screw compressors, etc.), turbo-expander, etc. They are equipment / machines that conveys, moves, handle, transforms and / or compresses gaseous, liquid and solid fluids.
These equipment are also driven by machines such as electric motor, gas engine, diesel engine, pneumatic motor, hydraulic motor, gas turbine, steam turbine, etc.
This movement is realised with transmission means such as gearbox, a coupling, belt, chain, etc.
For protection against the overheating, friction / wear, overpressure, auxiliary equipment are installed to control and protect the equipment.
Thus, a rotating machine is composed mainly of a driver unit, a driven unit, transmission and auxiliary systems.
The assembly of these equipment and systems is then called a rotating machine. In this course, we will identify the several types of rotating machines. Irrespective of their types, rotating machines move and transform process products and fluids.
